Optus Mobiles

Optus pre and post-paid mobile customers will be able to purchase applications created by independent developers through the existing Optus Consumer and Business Application Stores accessible via the web and directly from mobiles. (Optus opened its consumer app store in November 2009 and its business app store in February 2010)

According to Optus, "Partner Connect provides a simple way for developers to upload applications to the Optus Application Store which supports most major operating systems such as Blackberry, Android, Windows, Symbian Series 40 & 60 and high end Java.

Optus says that revenue from app sales will be split between Optus and the developers using "an industry standard 70/30 revenue sharing model."

Optus launched its business mobile app store in February claiming that it offered "hundreds of built-for-business applications, supported by scores of industry leading devices and operating systems." It said at the time that it was seeking expressions of interest from anyone interested in developing business mobile applications for sale through the store.

Optus had worked with California based Cellmania for the initial application content, but said it was looking to work much more with the developer community to make sure that its apps were useful and up to date. Cellmania claims that its mFinder system offered "a complete turnkey content system with content management, digital rights management, and over-the-air delivery for applications and mobile content such a music, videos, wallpaper and ringtones."
